Like is smaller capacity cousin, the Freedom 55  Waste Receptacle is attractive enough to install in urban areas and functional enough for the remote wilderness. This model addresses the aesthetic and functional shortcomings of traditional animal resistant waste systems. The opening mechanism was redesigned from the standard “pocket” hand-operated latch found on many animal resistant receptacles (which can be ergonomically difficult to use) to an innovative foot pedal. A curved back ensures water runoff and a keyless hidden door latch makes it convenient for any maintenance person to empty, clean and move on. As with our other receptacles the rectangular 6”- 8” opening is designed to intentionally limit the size and type of garbage permitted.

This multi-functional unit also gives options depending on the season and the types of animals likely to pose a problem in any given area. There might not be bears in a certain locale or time of year – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other opportunistic animals such as birds of all types, squirrels, and raccoons! A summer/winter conversion kit disables the foot pedal which can be under a foot of snow in some areas in the winter and allows for the installation of a handle instead. Available with recycled plastic side cladding in a range of colours, all-metal sides, or an advertising-insert capable side design (see Product Gallery). The Freedom 55 Animal Resistant Waste Receptacle has received official bear proof accreditation, certified by “Living With Wildlife Foundation.”
